Why Cook Egg Rolls in an Air Fryer

Frozen egg rolls made in an air fryer are by far my favorite! The oven doesn’t get them crispy enough, deep frying them in oil makes them crispy but too greasy, and the microwave ruins them. In my opinion, the air fryer is the only way to go!

Egg Rolls vs Spring Rolls

Egg rolls and spring rolls are very similar. They are both made with wrappers, they both usually contain vegetables, and they can both be deep fried. Both make for a great side dish or appetizer and both can be served with tasty sipping sauces. They do have some minor differences though, here is a quick breakdown:

How Long To Cook Frozen Egg Rolls and Spring Rolls In the Air Fryer

Different air fryers cook differently at different temperatures. Be sure to check your own air fryer for the most accurate cooking time. The cooking times below are for my large basket air fryer without preheating. Whether you are making vegetable egg rolls, chicken egg rolls, or pork egg rolls, these times should all be the same.

Frozen Egg Rolls (Regular Size) – 350 for 12-14 minutesFrozen Egg Rolls (Mini) – 375 for 9 minutesSpring Rolls (Large) – 350 for 10-12 minutesSpring Rolls (Regular or Mini) – 375 for 8 minutes

Remember, when using an air fryer, don’t crowd the air fryer basket. Place the egg rolls in a single layer and space them apart so they aren’t touching. That way you get the most even cooking. You can flip the egg rolls half way through cooking if you so wish, but I have found that it isn’t necessary.

Using an Air Fryer Oven or Convection Oven

If I need to make a huge batch of egg rolls for a crowd, I will use my oven instead of my counter-top air fryer. It is much easier than doing lots of smaller batches. When using my convection oven or “air fry” mode on my oven, I found it’s best to preheat it first. The egg rolls also may need to cook a minute or two longer. I also get the best results if I place the egg rolls on a wire rack over a baking sheet in the oven rather than directly on the baking sheet.

Should You Thaw the Egg Rolls?

There is no need to thaw the egg rolls before cooking them in the air fryer. In fact, it is best if you don’t. If you thaw them first, the egg rolls may not come out as crispy or dry out too fast. Keep them in the freezer until ready to cook.

Egg Roll Dipping Sauces

Though air fryer egg rolls taste great on their own, we almost always dip them in some kind of sauce. Here are some of our favorite dipping sauces:

How to Store and Reheat Leftover Egg Rolls

Place leftover egg rolls in an airtight container or bag and store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. To reheat, simply place back in the air fryer and heat at 375-degrees for 5-6 minutes.
