Chewy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

These Chewy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are definitely the most made cookies in our house! They are so chewy and yummy! When I was in high school, we used to eat a lot of our lunches at closest friends homes. My friend’s mom would make the best food for us but it was always a special treat when we would get these oatmeal cookies. After years of enjoying these chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, the family was kind enough to share the recipe with me. Now, this recipe is a favorite in our family. It’s fun to see my favorite childhood desserts be enjoyed by my own family. My husband makes these all the time, and I’m proud to say he pretty much has perfected it!

Chewy Oatmeal Cookies

Have you ever noticed that people can get pretty passionate about their cookies? People either want their cookie soft and chewy or thin and crispy. However, I’m convinced that this is the cookie that could bring everyone together! These chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are, well, chewy. There’s no denying that they are soft and practically melt in your mouth. But, the crispy cookie lovers will also love this cookie, thanks to the crispy exterior that gives just a slight crunch when you bite through. Try it and see…you’ll love it!

What Kind of Oatmeal to Use

There are so many different types and varieties of oatmeals out there! For this recipe, you’ll want to use a combination of flavorless quick oats along with a bit of flour to help hold the cookie together. You can use old-fashioned oats instead if that’s what you have on hand, just be warned that it makes the cookie even softer. So if you want a really chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookie without a crunch on the outer layer, this could be a good option. You can even give the oats a quick blitz in the blender to give it a finer texture if you like.

One of the best parts of making these chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies is all the goodies you can add-in. This recipe is fantastic as is, but if you want to change it up a bit, or try mixing a new flavor in, try adding some of these or subbing out the chocolate chips for these options:
