Let’s just say it. Halloween is a sweet holiday! See what I did there? But really, I love Halloween for all its kid candy fun. This great recipe takes all those great flavors — really any flavors you want — and stirs them into one.For this Candy Bark recipe I kept it pretty simple with chocolate candies, candy corn, and pretzel sticks. But you can really chop up any type of candy bar or use any type of candy you want on this. There is no right or wrong candy combination here!

What Chocolate is Best to Use?

I just used white chocolate chips for the bark, which worked great, but you can definitely use more expensive chocolate too. You just need to chop it up before melting it. I would recommend this for if you were making this Halloween bark for a nicer party for adults. If you don’t love white chocolate, you can easily substitute the white chocolate for milk or dark chocolate. Or if you want to do two different kinds of chocolate you can do that too, just use different flavors for each layer, or swirl it around for a decorative design. You can see in the picture, there is a layer of candy in the chocolate layers, then more candy sprinkled on top. This is a really decorative treat for Halloween parties, just break it up and place the serving size pieces out in a dish or on a tray. Your little monsters will love it!

Ingredients for Halloween Candy Bark

This candy bark is amazingly easy! Simply add the chocolate chips into the microwave and melt your chocolate. The melted chocolate will lay flat on parchment paper to sprinkle the toppings on.

Chocolate chips – I used a semi-sweet chocolate chips. Pretzels – The salty sticks are perfect for this. Cut them or keep them long to add to the chocolate. M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces – Add some chocolate and extra crunch to the bark. Candy corn – Always a favorite Halloween candy!

Tips on How to Melt Chocolate Perfectly

Melting chocolate takes a bit of time but yet, it is so easy! There are a two ways to melt chocolate for this bark recipe. Using the microwave or the stove will create the perfect chocolate every time!

The stovetop is easy to use. Place the chocolate to a small saucepan. If you have a double boiler that will work too! Set over medium low heat and slowly stir the chocolate chips together. The chocolate will be melted and smooth, remove from heat and continue to stir together. Place the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl and heat them up in 30 second intervals. Stir the chocolate chips each time. Continue to stir until smooth and creamy. When the chocolate is almost melted, remove and stir. There will be a few lumps in the chocolate to help keep the chocolate from burning. This will stop the chocolate from melting and will harden. Unfortunately, this cannot be reversed.

Substitution and Add-Ins for Halloween Bark

Any Halloween-themed candy is perfect for this bark. Leftover halloween candy is also a perfect way to make it the first week of November. Candy eyeballs, gummy worms, and candy pumpkins are perfect halloween candy.

Nuts – Almonds, peanuts, or other chopped nuts add a salty crunch. Candy – Reese’s peanut butter cups, bite size pieces cut up, and milky ways are always a favorite! Chocolate – Bittersweet chocolate, milk chocolate, and even white chocolate are perfect for this halloween candy bark recipe.
