Melonade

Melonade is a recipe we came up with one day after eating on a huge watermelon for days. Does this happen to anyone else? It feels like we always end up getting way more watermelon than what we need and have so much left over. And let’s face it, watermelon, once sliced, only tastes good for a few days tops. Then it starts to lose all its juice into the container that you are keeping it in and starts to get a weird texture. This delicious drink is the perfect solution so you don’t lose all that fresh, sweet watermelon flavor. It’s light, refreshing, and super easy to make. Cheers to summer!

Tips for Making Melonade

Make sure to remove any and all black seeds from the watermelon. The white seeds are find to blend up but get those black seeds out of there.Dice the watermelon into chunks, which makes it easier to blend.I like to puree up the watermelon in my amazing Blendec blender, but any good quality blender will work just fine.I like to use lemon juice or true lemon flavoring, because quite frankly, I don’t love squeezing lemons. But you can totally use fresh lemon juice too! Usually you can get a couple of good tablespoons of juice out of each lemon.Once you have a nice, smooth consistency, add about five cups of the puree to a pitcher, add water and either lemon juice or true lemon flavoring.Don’t forget the sugar! With all that lemon flavoring, you will need to sweeten it up. I have never tried it with sugar substitutes, so I can’t say if it works as well. Everything in moderation, right?

Substitutions and Additions to Melonade

With a good blender, you can make any flavor of lemonade you like! Combine fresh peaches, kiwi, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, raspberries, just about any kind of fruit you like along with the watermelon cubes to make an even fruitier puree. Then add the puree to water, sugar and lemon juice as directed in the recipe card below. The flavor possibilities are endless! Try squeezing fresh lime juice in there too. So yummy!
