Healthy Oatmeal Cookies

I wish I could tell you where this recipe for Healthy Oatmeal Cookies originated. A friend of mine posted it on Facebook and I wasn’t able to trace it back to the original recipe. When I saw this recipe I was like “Can these really be edible? Do I dare make these so-called ‘cookies’”? Well, my curiosity got the better of me and I made them. I was pleasantly surprised! They were chewy and delicious! My kids loved them and ate them up just like they would regular oatmeal cookies but I felt much better knowing they were really just eating fruit and oats!

What makes these cookies healthy?

A quick look at the ingredient list, it appears that the things that make this recipe a healthy cookie are the ingredients that are omitted. For example, you’ll notice there is not butter, not sugar, no cream or other kinds of ingredients. Instead, these cookies use smashed bananas and applesauce. There is not flour or eggs in the mix either. So you can see why I was a little skeptical about giving them a try. But trust me. They are really good!

Substitutions to try

When I made these I did two different batches, one with raisins and one with chocolate chips. The ones with chocolate chips, in my opinion, were better. Not quite as healthy, but a few chocolate chips never killed anyone (at least I hope not)! The raisin ones weren’t bad, I just prefer chocolate to raisins. Anyway, this is a great way to curb that sugar craving (or chocolate craving if you use chocolate chips) and not feel guilty about blowing your diet. They also make for a great healthy snack for the kiddos. They are quick and easy to whip up and they stay good in an air-tight container (refrigerated) for days!
