Salmon Rice Bowl
If you’ve spent any time on the foodie side of Tik Tok, then you have seen Emily Mariko (@emilymariko on TikTok and Instagram). She has a very specific aesthetic and she wows her followers with bounteous farmer’s market hauls and delicious recipes. Her most famous recipe is this Salmon Rice Bowl. She described it as her favorite way to use leftover salmon and rice. I love this recipe so much that I don’t always even wait to have leftovers, I just make salmon and rice fresh. I don’t try every food trend that makes its way across social media, but this one just looked too good.
Salmon Rice Bowl Ingredients
Salmon Fillet – This recipe is meant for leftover salmon, but you can cook some up just for this recipe. We have some great recipes for salmon, including our Air Fryer Salmon, Miso Salmon, and Baked Lemon Salmon. Rice – Again, this recipe calls for leftover rice. I have used long grain rice and also short grain rice like sushi rice and it has all tasted great! Soy Sauce – I like to use low sodium soy sauce, because I don’t like too much salt, but you can use regular soy sauce or coconut aminos. Kewpie Mayonnaise – This is a special kind of Japanese mayo. Regular mayonnaise won’t work. Kewpie mayo has a sweet and savory taste that is perfect for these Salmon Rice Bowls. You can find it at most Asian grocery stores or you can order it online. Sriracha – Use according to your spice tolerance! If you don’t like things very spicy, then just add a little bit of Sriracha. Avocado – The avocado adds creaminess and balances out the spicy flavor. Seaweed Snacks – You can find seaweed snacks at almost any grocery store. They are cooked in a little oil and salt and they are the perfect crispy consistency. You can also get nori sheets and cut them up into little rectangles.
Variations
Emily Mariko’s Salmon Rice Bowl recipe is pretty much perfect, but sometimes I like to add my own flair. Sometimes, I will add vegetables like diced cucumber, bell peppers, or carrots for a little crunch. If I don’t have salmon, then I make it with shredded chicken, diced shrimp or tofu. You can also substitute the rice for brown rice or quinoa. If you don’t have any seaweed snacks or nori on hand, then you can use furikake seasoning instead. Furikake is a Japanese seasoning blend typically made with dried seaweed, sesame seeds, salt, and sugar. I’m not a fan of kimchi, but Emily sometimes enjoys kimchi as a side dish with this bowl.
